Tedford’s Three-Pronged Approach to Mitigating Homelessness

1. Homelessness prevention

Homeless prevention combines short-term case management with financial assistance, including rental and security deposit assistance, and heating assistance, to keep people in their homes who are at risk of homelessness.

2. Emergency housing

Our family and adult shelters provide a safe place to stay while our guests work with their case managers to enroll in MaineCare, obtain state identification, access to healthcare, and find permanent, stable housing.

3. Permanent supportive housing

Tedford’s permanent supportive housing buildings offer affordable rental units combined with on-site case management to households who have previously experienced homelessness.

In 2022:

26% of Adult Shelter individuals served moved to permanent housing

79% of Family Shelter households served moved to permanent housing
